The Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild enables modern quilters to meet, share and educate. The VMQG is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 and is a chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild that encompasses over 100 Modern Quilt Guilds in Canada, the US and Internationally.
Since 2016, the VMQG has held a biannual Modern Quilt Showcase (except between 2020-2021, because, well, COVID) and I've been part of the volunteer coordination team.
For the 2022 Showcase, I volunteered to take on the Showcase Director role, to shape the approach and collaborate with a fabulous team of people to make it happen. It involved Showcase branding and design, quilt registration, quilt show layout, volunteer coordination, finance, pr and promotion, show setup and takedown, and showcase documentation.
Our 2022 Showcase welcomed hundreds of visitors, we had 148 quilts on display, 89 volunteers, three award-winning quilts, and one new feature: a modern quilt lifestyle living room. We also designed and handmade a modern quilt to raffle off, with all proceeds going to the Art Therapy program at Covenant House Vancouver. We raised $1,163 in two days.
